The Serenity Prayer

The Serenity Prayer, written by Reinhold Niebuhr, is one of the most well-known and loved prayers. Most people are only familiar with the first four lines of the prayer, but the rest of the prayer is equally important. In fact, the rest of the prayer may be the way you find serenity, courage, and wisdom.

This is a prayer that you slowly walk through, praying it out loud, hearing the words, feeling them, affirming them, desiring them.

As you move through each phrase of the prayer, you reflect and discern your own heart and mind about what you pray. And you ask for the grace to amend and align your will and ways on earth, as they are in heaven.

The Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
enjoying one moment at a time;
accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
that I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
forever in the next.

With faith, hope, and love;
With serenity, courage, and wisdom;
With Father, Son, and Spirit,

Pastor Brian
