READ Ephesians 2:10 two or three times. For one of those readings, make it personal. “For I am…”
Bonus Text: Read Psalm 139:13-16 to learn more about how God created you and how you should think about yourself.
These passages are the basis for you to have a very high (and life-changing) vision of who you are. You are God’s work of art. You are carefully designed and created by God. You are loaded with gifts, talents, resources (and assets). And, you are designed to make a contribution and make a difference. In other words: Divine Purpose is downloaded into your DNA. To say it mildly - this is EXCITING STUFF!
Think About It. Make a list of seven to ten of your greatest assets (gifts, talents, etc.). What has God given you that will make a difference in the lives of others?
How often and how intentionally are you using your gifts to make a real difference for others?
PRAY. Spend a few moments in silence. Listen to what God may be saying. What prayer do you have right now? Offer these thoughts and requests to Christ.
Here is a core idea for you to consider: It is diversity and unity. It is different and together. It is the very nature of you being a part of a local church. You are Uniquely You. You are designed by God to be a specific part of the body of Christ (that is, the local church).
Do you know what part you are in the body? Do you know the role you are most designed to fill and the work you are most able to do?
Action Step. We have designed a special workshop and are offering it many times in the next few weeks. It is Find Your P.L.A.C.E., a 90-minute workshop that will give you great insight on how God has designed you, what kind of “member” you are, and what role/ministry you have to offer. P.L.A.C.E. stands for Personality, Love, Ability, Character, Experience.
Sign up for a workshop now! Attending this workshop will be a fun time of self-discovery, a chance to meet some people, connect with our staff, and then find the next steps to get plugged in so you can Make a Difference.
PRAY. Spend a few minutes and ask God to set new things in motion in your life. Tell God you are available to do his will and join in with his work (see John 5:17).
READ Ephesians 4:11-12.
There are a few main insights here. God has provided a leadership team for the local church. And while that leadership team has many ministries they will do, there is One Thing that is most emphasized as the work that team does. That thing is PREPARE. Prepare God’s people… Prepare you!
Think About It. What does it mean to be prepared? What other words can you use (for example, empowered)? Come up with a list of five to seven good words that help you understand what a leadership team will do for you.
Now, take another look at verse 12. You are prepared to do ministry. This is key. A leadership team, the staff of a church, will certainly do some ministry. But that group cannot do ALL the ministry and work that needs to be done. They can’t come close to doing everything needed. The entire body is needed to do everything that needs to be done. You are needed.
Think About It. If you aren’t jumping in to do what God has created you to do there are some things that are not going to get done. Important ministry is not going to happen. Some lives are not going to be changed.
Please understand this: You are incredibly important. YOU are needed.
And one of the most important things our staff team will do is to prepare you, empower you, and provide you with the resources and opportunities you need to do what God has created and called you to do. Click here to visit our Staff Directory. Look at the ministries the staff leads. Are there any ministries that you are interested in being a part of?
PRAY. Be grateful. Praise God for how he has made you. Commit yourself to becoming fully prepared for making a difference. Ask God to open a door for you to connected with our Leadership Team.
Read Ephesians 4:13-16.
Study these verses. There are four or five good results listed that will happen when the church is working the way God designed it to work. Make a list of what will happen when leaders are preparing and empowering the people, and the people are doing the wide-ranging work of ministry and service.
This is a vision of a fully functioning and highly flourishing church. God wants you to flourish and thrive. God wants his church to flourish and thrive. It is a mutual thing. You help the church grow and mature. That church helps you grow and mature. It flows back and forth. It is beautiful. When we do things the way God designed - everyone FLOURISHES.
PRAY. Use the language of these verses to shape how you will pray for the church and for your involvement in the church. Example: “Jesus, help Living Word become fully mature. Help me play my part in this coming to pass…”
REVISIT the previous days. Do a big picture reflection. What has God been saying to you? What is stirring in your heart? What response is God inviting you to offer him and his Church?
I will say this one final time (this week). You are loved. You are unique. You are needed. And we are grateful you are here with us.
BENEDICTION. May you be richly blessed and filled with the grace and love of God, so you may overflow into the lives of others. You are blessed to be a blessing. Amen.
