Spiritual Direction is an ancient practice that has been an integral part of pastoral ministry in the history of the church. It is a process and relationship in which a spiritually mature and experienced Christian (the Spiritual Director) helps you pay attention to and discern the presence, work, and Word of God in and around your life.
With Spiritual Direction, you will grow in the practice of the spiritual disciplines, in your understanding and experience of the great biblical realities, and undergo a renovation of the heart and a transformation of your character. You will encounter a growing relationship of friendship and intimacy with Christ and discover the particular invitations Christ has for you to partner with Him in the renewing of the world around you.
What is Involved?
These conversations or sessions are usually once a month and last for an hour. They are held in one of the offices or reflection rooms at the church. You come prepared to talk with your Director about your experiences, your spiritual journey, your growth and your prayerful encounters with God as they have unfolded since the previous session. The Director works together with you to explore the issues, themes, and experiences that seem most important for your relationship with Jesus.
Each session is a time of conversation, reflection, attentive listening, silence, prayer, and discernment – all devoted to your personal growth in Christ. In many cases, you leave with clarity about the next steps for the weeks ahead.
