Reach Out With SOCKS

Living Word Sock Drive for Homeless in York
Guest Blogger, Aaron Kunce

Living Word is conducting a Sock Drive to meet the needs of two local organizations, York Giving Helping Hands & Nate’s Necessities, that serve the homeless in York with the compassion of Jesus. We are honored to help out in this tangible and loving way to be able to bless people in need in our community.

York Giving Helping Hands serves a warm meal every Saturday and Sunday to York’s homeless, many with backgrounds of significant mental health issues and struggles with addiction. Nate’s Necessities coordinates clothing distribution for York Giving Helping Hands and other York agencies serving those in need.

We have become aware that there is an immediate need for warm socks. For most of us, this has been a fairly mild winter, but the recent below-freezing temperatures have been extremely hard on people in our region who are currently homeless.

WHAT IS NEEDED:
If you would like to participate, please purchase new socks (specifically men’s white crew athletic socks), sizes 9-11 (L) and 12+ (XL), and bring them to one of our two collection boxes at Living Word. There is an additional need for men’s hooded sweatshirts & sweatpants size (S) through (XL) as well.

WHERE?
Drop off will be at Living Word Community Church (2530 Cape Horn Rd., Red Lion, PA). One sock box will be inside Door #7 and one will be inside Door #2.

WHEN?
The deadline to drop off socks or sweats is Sunday, February 19. Of course, any time the building is open will be a suitable time to drop off items.

All socks will be given to the local organization Nate’s Necessities to be handed out at the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) distribution of York Giving Helping Hands.

If you have any questions, please contact Glenda at: gkelly@lwccyork.com or 717.755.0089 x 120.
Thank you for helping us show the compassion of Christ through the gift of new and warm socks.
