Scripture
Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together
Psalm 2:1-2 NIV

How will you pray for the nations and our leaders today?
Psalm 2 - Devotional
The Trajectory of All Humanity
If Psalm 1 is, as we read yesterday, about our trajectory as individuals, then Psalm 2 is about the trajectory of all humanity.
The opening verses of Psalm 2 sound like a poetic version of questions we probably find ourselves asking as we read the news. Maybe we talk about the hard and horrible things happening in the world with friends and family.
As we read this psalm, the idea of being ruled by a king may be unfamiliar to us, but the notion of those in power conspiring against God can easily ring just as true for us today as when it was originally written.
That’s because the same desire that led Adam and Eve to sin by choosing their freedom over God’s goodness (and causes us to sin even now) runs rampant as nations and kings plot to free themselves from God’s rule.
So, what should we do?

Psalm 2 points us to Jesus as the true King, who not only comes to save us from our individual sin but is given the very nations that stand against him as his inheritance
(v. 8). Those who serve and take refuge in him are not only blessed (vv. 11-12) but get to share in that very inheritance (Romans 8:17).
In other words, the desired freedom and power that is causing the nations and rulers to rebel against God is the very thing promised by putting faith in Jesus as King!
Take a moment and pray for our leaders to “serve the Lord with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling” (v. 11).
