Board Nominations

The Living Word Board of Directors serves as the church's governing body, providing spiritual, strategic, and financial oversight. Board members serve a three-year term with the ability to serve an additional consecutive term. Each year, Living Word members are invited to participate in nominating and voting for new candidates to serve on the Board.

Board of Directors Qualifications

Each board candidate and Board Director shall be a member of LWCC and possess or demonstrate:  
  1. Full support of the mission, vision, and statement of faith (What We Believe) of LWCC.  
  1. A strong faith and spiritual maturity.  
  1. The ability to uphold the highest level of Christian, ethical, legal and moral standards.  
  1. Competencies desired by the Board and a willingness to use them in support of this role.  
  1. Ability to listen, analyze, think clearly and creatively, work well with and maintain good chemistry with other people individually and in a group.  
  1. Sensitivity to and tolerance of differing views, a friendly, responsive, and patient approach, a biblical call to unity, a developed sense of values, concern for the church.  
  1. A history of service in the church and/or community.  
  1. Full support from their family to serve in this role.  
  1. Independence so they can be free of any conflicts of interest. Independence is further defined as:
  • Persons who are not employees or staff members of LWCC.  
  • Persons who are not related by blood or marriage to staff members or other Board Directors. Blood or marriage relationships are defined for the purposes of independence as being his or her spouse, ancestors, brothers and sisters (whether whole- or half-blood), children (whether natural or adopted), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and spouses of brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  
  • Persons who do not report to, or are not subordinate to, employees or staff members of LWCC.  
  • Persons who do not report to, or are not subordinate to, other Board Directors.  
  • Persons who do not receive a significant amount for consulting or speaking, or any other remuneration from LWCC.  
  • Persons who do not have relationships with firms that have significant financial dealings with LWCC, its officers, directors or key employees.  
  • Persons who are not the paid legal counsel, related by blood or marriage to the paid legal counsel (see definition of blood or marriage in item b above), or are employed by the firm that is the paid legal counsel of LWCC.  
  • Persons who are not the auditors, related by blood or marriage to the auditors (see definition of blood or marriage in item b above), or are employed by the auditing firm of LWCC.  
10. The ability to exercise strict levels of confidentiality.
11. Willingness to prepare for and attend board and committee meetings, ask questions, take responsibility and follow through on a given assignment.  
12. Willingness to develop certain skills you do not possess, such as: cultivate and solicit funds, cultivate and recruit Board Directors and needed volunteers, read and understand financial statements, and learn more about the substantive programs of the church.
13. The ability to model stewardship and generosity by supporting LWCC with regular tithing and gifts of service
