Scripture

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Psalm 100:4-5 NIV
Question

How can I reflect on who God is?

Psalm 100
What You Know You Worship and What You Worship You Know

Take a few moments to prayerfully read Psalm 100.
In this psalm, the gratitude that the psalmist expresses is rooted in being assured that God is Creator (v. 3), he is Shepherd (v. 3), his unfailing love continues forever (v. 5), and his faithfulness continues to each generation (v. 5).
I remember a preacher saying: “What you know you worship and what you worship you know.”

The knowing of who God is stirs our affections, which leads to a response. Knowing God and who he is, is the foundation of our joy. Our joyful actions flow from the joy we feel in knowing that God keeps his word. Reread verses 1, 2, and 4. These verses are possible because they rest on the foundation of verses 3 and 5.

No matter what our lives look like, our thankfulness should never cease because it is not based on situations, but on who God is. When life is tough, it is even more important to remember the goodness of God because he sustains us.
Our hard times want all of our attention and want us to forget that God loves us more than we can imagine, and he is faithful to never leave our side. So, allow the knowledge of who God is to fill you, stir your affections, and lead you to actions that reflect y our thankfulness.

Reflection: Take some time to reflect on God as Creator, Shepherd, and faithful lover of your soul. For reference, check out Psalm 8:3-8, John 10:11-18, and Romans 5:6-8.

Feel free to be still, walk around, paint, or even call a friend to reflect together. Take some time to pray or write a prayer thanking God for who he is.

As you meditate on how good God is, thankfulness will arise. Do not suppress it! Let it overflow. Shout, worship, sing!

Give thank s to God and praise his name knowing his steadfast love endures forever!

Prayer

Father, as we recall how good you are, may thankfulness flow through us. When we experience joy rising, may we not suppress it but allow it overflow through worship, singing and smiling. We are grateful, in Jesus name, Amen.
