Scripture

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever. 2 Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures forever. 3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords: His love endures forever.

Psalm 136:1-3 NIV
Question

How can you turn what you believe into praise today?

Psalm 136
His Love Never Quits

Psalm 36 points to truths we hear echoed throughout scripture. However, good, sound theology is never an end in itself—it must be turned into PRAISE. That is what we hear in this Psalm.

This Psalm is meant to be sung and prayed responsively by a worshipping congregation. As people of faith, we
continue beyond merely learning biblical truth, as we turn it into a joyful expression of praise. And we must never stop at personal spirituality because God intends for us to join our brothers and sisters lifting our voices together as a community of praise.

Psalm 136 has a refrain that is repeated throughout the Psalm: His love endures forever.

In different translations, this refrain is sometimes phrased: “His mercy endures forever”, or “His faithfulness endures forever.” Even “His faithful love endures forever.”

The Message translation has this wording: His love never quits.
This phrasing calls to mind the lyrics of the 2021 worship song we’ve sung at Living Word: Firm Foundation (He Won’t) by Cody Carnes, Chandler Moore, and Austin Davis.

Here’s how the song begins:

Christ is my firm foundation
The rock on which I stand
When everything around me is shaken
I’ve never been more glad
That I put my faith in Jesus
‘Cause He’s never let me down
He’s faithful through generations
So why would He fail now?

And the repeated refrain is: He won’t. No, He won’t. He won’t fail. He won’t.

His love never quits! Prayerfully read Psalm 136 and give God some praise today—for his love never quits.
Prayer

Lord, we praise you because your love simply never quits! -Amen
