Socks and More Socks

UPDATE: Living Word Sock Drive for Homeless in York
by PastorAaron Kunce
Way to go church! The Sock Drive was a success, and your donation is greatly appreciated.

This past Sunday (February 19) Living Word conducted a Sock Drive to meet the needs of two local organizations - York Giving Helping Hands and Nate’s Necessities – that both work tirelessly to serve the homeless in York with the compassion of Jesus.

A total of 238 packs of new socks and 48 clothing items (sweatshirts and sweatpants) were donated. The donations filled seven large contractor bags and it took two vehicles to get them down to the York Giving Helping Hands luncheon on Sunday afternoon.

The socks and clothing items were lovingly handed out this past Sunday.

Additionally, 180 meals were served, and the hot portion was provided and served by a family from Living Word.

In the photo you will see Kerry Smeltzer on the left and his son from Nate's Necessities. Kerry posted about the Living Word Sock Drive on the Nate's Necessities Facebook page if you’d like to check that out.

We are honored to have had an opportunity to reach out in this tangible and loving way to be able to bless people in need in our community. Thank you to all who participated!
York Giving Helping Hands serves a warm meal every Saturday and Sunday to York’s homeless, many with backgrounds of significant mental health issues and struggles with addiction. Nate’s Necessities coordinates clothing distribution for York Giving Helping Hands and other York agencies serving those in need.

A special thanks to Ron Crone, Glenda Kelly, and Tammy Schopf-Smith for coordinating!
Thanks again, Living Word.
